Computer Skills Coaching

Mr D is retired and now able to devote more time to hobbies and interests. Having never used a computer before, he sought our advice about what to buy and how to start learning to use it.  We recommended and installed the new equipment, and Mr D tackled the basics on a beginners course at a local adult learning centre. This was supplemented with one-to-one skills coaching from Poppy IT Services, enabling him to become familiar with using his own system and programmes.  This was done on a ‘little and often’ basis, as attempting too much in each session is overwhelming.

Now, several years later, Mr D uses his PC extensively for record keeping, letter writing, editing photos from his digital camera, scanning in documents and small artefacts, creating posters for club events and much more. In particular, he now edits and produces a club magazine, requiring all his new computer skills.

Since that first Windows 98 PC, we have upgraded Mr D to Windows XP and a better printer.  He says “There is so much to know and I regularly run into problems.  Most of them aren’t too urgent, so I just add them to the list for my next session with Steve. All I have to do then is remember what he shows me!”
